Audio Systems: JVC Reciever Troubleshooting, factory programming, programming assistance

Can you get back to me with your thoughts on this.  I would really appreciate it.  Im working on a JVC KD-SX770 mobile CD reciever.  The problem is that the unit does not respond to any buttons on the detatchable face.  There is a reset button on the main unit that does work.  The CD drive will load and then eject discs.  I disassembled the unit to look for any obvious problems.  I noticed a large capacitor near the power section with what appears to be glue around the bottom.  I wonder if it would come from the factory that way or it was a repair.  The contacts between the face and the unit are clean and contact properly.  Im not sure if the problem is with the main unit or with the face plate.  I don't have a remote control to test IR operation.  Thanks.

is it the original faceplate? some units need factory programming assistance to get reinitialized to each other.(faceplate to receiver) could also be a security feature has unit locked up kike that, also requiring factory assistance. i've seen a couple of shops that can sucessfully reinitialize units in this area, you might find someone near you and not need factory. sorry i couldn't be more specific, but that's the nature of auto sound these days.....G....
