Audio Systems: Audio question, home entertainment equipment, medium price range
QuestionHello Kevin,
What is the best overall solution for audio/home entertainment equipment in a medium price range? Currently I have an older high end single tray CD player(10+ yrs Rotel $350), a resonably good integrated receiver (5+ yrs Technics $450)and a pair of speakers (Bose mid-sized bookshelf 10+ years $450). Obviously, technology and pricing have changed. I'm not sure what direction to go in. A lot of people I know have a multi-speaker setup connected to a $500-$600 home entertainment system that plays CD's, MP3, and DVD's. I have more of a need to listen to music than to experience theater grade AV, so buying a boxed entertainment system rather than components seems a little confining, but it would be nice to find something that met both criteria well. I have also been reading about a new high density CD format that sounds more like analog. How much does one need to spend on a mid-range system these days? Do you have any suggestions?
Thanks,
Keith
AnswerDear Keith,
I was wrong. The cheap DVD/SACD/DVD-A/CD player is not a JVC. It's the Pioneer DV-653A. It retails for $179 with the Audio Advisor (www.audioadvisor.com), but I shopped around on the net and found it for $134.95 at Circuit City (www.circuitcity.com).
Kindest regards,
Kevin
