Audi Repair: A3 ESP light/ Temp gauge failure., esp light, coolant temp

Hi Jan, whilst driving yesterday noticed the ESP light was on and staying on! Did the usual and tried pressing the switch on & off...didn't work! The strange thing is whilst the ESP light is on the temp gauge will drop from 90 down to 0 and stay there...very strange! Also when i turn the car off after i pull up it almost sounds likes its powering down/winding down! Any ideas would be appreciated, thanks.

You are losing power somewhere.  The coolant temp sensor is a common failure item, but I don't think it can cause this, however stranger things have happened.  I would check the ground connections on that side of the engine, look for chafed wires and also check the fuses.  Let me know if you find anything.  Jan
