Audi Repair: Gear shift, audi a4 quattro, audi a4

Question
my boyfriend has an Audi A4 Quattro and his gear shifter broke where it enables you to shift or change gears. We can not seem to find out how to get in there to replace the part that broke.

Some of the components that link the gear shift lever to the transmission are located on the transmission itself, and it is not uncommon for a link to pop off which stops the mechanism from working.  Let me know where the break is, and then I may be able to help you further.  Jan
