Audi Repair: 4.2 Liter Oil Cooler, coolant leak, a6 quattro

I have a 2000 A6 quattro with a 4.2 liter v8. there is a coolant leak on the pass side front of the motor. I think it is coming from the oil cooler. Is it neccessary to remove the engine from the car to replace the oil cooler?

I would hope not!  Are you sure the oil cooler is watercooled?  However I am sure you can remove any radiator/cooler without having to remove the engine otherwise I would have had nominations for worst engine bay design suggested already!  You may find this job easier from underneath the car.  let me know what you find,  Jan
