QuestionQUESTION: When my car is cold (and it is cold outside) and I go to start it, all gears light up on the transmission selector. When the car is put into gear (drive) it is rough shifting and starts out in a very slow 1st; the speed is delimited as acceleration occurs.
Once the car is warm, turned off and restarted, there is no problem at all. In fact today was a warm day and the problem did not occur at all. There are no warning lights.
My (non-Audi) mechanic is baffled (he thinks it may be the transmission). So am I (except I think it is an electronic problem). Any ideas?
ANSWER: hello
Any time the shifter lights up - the is a fault in TCM.
Check your faults first, I will need to know what is it

QUESTION: Pardon me but what is TCM?
And is that something I (an amateur) can check or should I have my mechanic do it?
Answerhello
TCM stands for Transmission control module, and you need a scanner or Audi VAG to check for any faults.
Any shop or garage will check this for you . write the numbers or P code and let me know. The number or P code is a Fault , which will point us in some direction.
