Audi Repair: CVT Reliability, warranty dealer, valve body
QuestionI have a 2002 A4 1.8T with the CVT and have been hearing a lot of bad experiences with this transmission. I have heard they won't last forever and generally fail between 40k and 80k.
A well respected independant mechanic advised me to sell because of this known defect.
I haven't had any problems, but I'd like to know your opinion.
Mine is out of warranty and maybe I'll sell it off rather than risk a costly $8000 repair.
Thank you
Answerhello
My opinion is the same as your mechanic, I have seen them going bad or starting acting fanny anyway from 30K.
Some people don't even complain about, but I can tell there is something going on . On warranty dealer usually replace module or valve body and sometimes the whole trans. If it's costumer pay job - dealer will recommend new trans. So my opinion - get Quatro.
good luck Greg
