QuestionI recently changed my timing belt on my V6 2.8L Audi A4. After I put everything back together, I got a P1392 code (Open or short to B+ for left bank cam sensor). The car starts and runs well.
I can run the car at idle for 20 minutes and generate no codes. Then, the next time I start it, I might get a P1392 code. I replaced the cam sensor, but I still get the same code.
Is there any way to check the cam sensor (Hall effect, 3 wire plug)--does anyone make an adaptor that allows me to connect a meter to the cam sensor (and still allow the cam sensor to connect to the ECM?
Answerhello
From what I know only Audi makes that connector with splice in it. It takes 2 time to set that fault so what's why it never shows at first start after you clear the fault
Looks like you have sensor , wire or Ecm problem
I looked in Audi manual for P1392 and that's what I will do
Disconnect 3pin connector for cam sensor
ignition ON
Measure V between terminals 1 and 3
specifield value 9 to 14 V
If OK- switch ignition OFF
check wires from connector to ECM
pin #1 at connector to pin #11 at ECM
pin #2 ------------ to pin # 44------
pin #3 ------------- to pin # 14-----
specifield value max 1.5 ohms.
check for short between
pin #3 at connector to pin # 44 at ECM
pin #3 ------------- to pin #11 ------
pin #2 -------------- to pin #11 ------
specifield value - open
if wires are OK and you have 12V at pin 1 & 3 - replace sensor
if wires are OK and you do not have 12V at pin # 1 and 3 replace ECM.
good luck
