QuestionCar has been setting not started for 4 years. I had to replace the entire steering column with one from the salvage yard, due to ball bearings falling out. Also, replaced the top coil, rotor, distributor cap,and control module. It's got a very good battery. The starter tested good.It has a near new alternator.Headlights,etc,work. Still no fire getting to the starter,or motor. It,makes no sound.Any answers would be much appreciated. Thanks, much. Barry
AnswerOK, Locate the single wire, I believe it is PURPLE in color that is attached to the "S: terminal on the starter and check for battery voltage as you try and start the engine.
If you get battery voltage at the wire, The fault is in the starter solenoid or the starter.
If you do NOT get battery voltage at the wire, The fault is in the neutral starter safety switch.
HINT: Making SURE that the transmission is in PARK and the emergency brake IS applied, Jumper the "S" terminal from where you removed the purple wire to the starter battery post and see if the starter engages.
