Cadillac Repair: ac, electronic leak detector, lincoln towncar

I have a 1996 Lincoln Towncar Signature series. The ac compressor will not come on. The car got cold then warm then cold again and then it got hot. I tried to add freon but to no avail. I would appreciate any help.

You need to remove all the freon from the system.

Use a vacuum pump to extract all the air out of the system.

Install 2 cans of freon and use an electronic leak detector to look for the leak in the system

Fix the leak.

Vacuum pump the system back down and add the correct amount of freon to the system.
