Cadillac Repair: 1997 Cadillac Sedan de Ville 4.6 litre engine, oil leaks, tune ups

Hello Tom!! iwanted to know if it was wise to purchase a 97 deville with 167,000 miles for 3,000 ? me not being aware, how long would a average 4.6 last saying it was kept up, tune-ups etc. and can you give me any signs to look for? THANK YOU IT WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED!!!!!!!

Look under the car for oil leaks as Cadillac is famous for their leaks.

Pull the transmission dip stick and if the fluid smells burnt or has a darkish brown color to it, Your going to be looking at trans problems later on.

Make sure that the A/C and heater work efficiently.

Make sure that the CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATES qwhen you turn the key to the ON position, Just before you start the engine.
