Cadillac Repair: Power steering, pressure gage, cadillac deville

1994 Cadillac deville

The power steering is gone.

I pour more fluid in.  I got better for 10 miles and then I power streering went bad.

Before I go to the shop, I want to know the problem.  

Answer
Without putting a pressure gage on the pump to verify pump pressure your problem could be either:

1. The pump itself.

2. The FLOW CONTRL VALVE in the pump.

3. A fault in the steering rack.


There is just no way to tell until you get pressure readings.


Did this come on suddenly or has it been getting worse over time ?.

If I had to make an educated guess, OF WHICH I DO NOT LIKE TO DO, But going by experience, I would say the pump is at fault.
