I have a 97 cadillac dev while running the car if I take the red cable from the battery should the car continue to run

Hi Harry, Yes the engine may continue to run but you run the risk of damageing the computors and modules on the car. They may not fail right away but they will be weakened and fail prematurely. That was a test that was done pre 1975 to determine as a quick test if the alternator was working or not. Bill
