Chevrolet Repair: 1989 idle surges, throttle position sensor, air control valve
QuestionHi James,
I have a 1989 Chevy 1/2 pickup that the idle surges. I took it to a repair shop and they replaced the idle air control valve and the throttle position sensor. I was told that the problem was fixed and that I may want to replace the o2 sensors at a later time. The problem is still there. Any suggestions? The idle will surge when the engine is cold or hot and the a/c is not on.
AnswerSounds to me like youhave a vacuum leak. common places are around the throttle body itself, at the base. While truck is running spray carb cleaner aroundthe base, and if idle raises you have a leak. Also spray around the intake itself. another common problem. It could be theo2 sensors, but unlikely, unless getting poor fuel mileage
