Chevrolet Repair: 96 Chevy Cavalier antitheft system, chevy cavalier, vci number

My car was running fine then it just shut off...after ahile it would start and run fine then shut off again...now it starts and shuts off  starts and shuts off...the antitheft system light stays on ....how can i get it off

You have a security problem.  YOu need to take it to a shop that has a scanner that is able to scan for security codes.  All scanners will give you security codes but the Tech2 will make Diagnosis a breeze.  With the Tech2 on it go to the body menu then Security.  Check lock cyinder voltage and to see if a key is recognized in the igntion.  It could need a new lock cylinder.  If you find a shop with a TECH 2 you can ask them to reflash out the security. This can only be done if they have the VCI number and have the TIS2000 programming software.
