Chevrolet Repair: questions about wrenching, fluke multimeter, repair question
QuestionHi, sorry to waste your time with a non repair question. I was wondering about being a mechanic for a dealship.
I am 38 but college trained in automotive. no experience to claim but have been running a repair shop from the house for years. Am I too old to be a mechanic for a dealership?
What average amount of money does a dealership mechanic make? I am not asking what you make. But for a ballpark figure. Between what and what?
Is dealership mechanic something a man with a family of 3 kids can support thier family on?
What kinds of training should I get to make myself more marketable?
Thanks for your answer. Dont just give me a standard preformed answer like 'out of my expertise'. I am seriously looking for some advice of if I should pursue a career in this area.
thanks
AnswerA dealership mechanic can make from 25000-100000. Ask your self if you have expertise in electrical problems. Do you know how to do testing with a fluke multimeter and do you know how to use a tech 2 scan tool and are you familiar with the newer vehicles. Most cars worked on in the dealer are within the past 7 years. You also have to have the ability to work quickly as most higher paid techs work commission. You also would want to take a job that put you right on the repair line. You want to find a place that has work and a shortagte of techs. Other wise the other people there may not welcom you as you would be "stealing" there work.
