Chevrolet Repair: fuel pump, screw driver, fuel pump

it started sat. wheni went to leave it started,then died.sunday i tapped on the fuel pump and it started up.drove it then today.it started and then died,im trying to take the pump out.what do i have to do?

I don't know the type of car.  Most are the same.  Drop the tank.

Empty the tank

disconnect what you can (hoses, connectors)

Put a jack under the tank.  

Loosen the straps

slowly let jack down, dropping the tank.

disconnect things as they come accessible.  

pull tank out from under the vehicle

turn the metal ring (rusty), using a screw driver and hammer.  Tapping lightly

Pull out sending unit with pump attached.

Change the pump and screen

inspect the tank for damage, leaks, rusty areas

inspect the straps for longevity.

reinstall sending unit if you are satisified

install tank in reverse of removal.
