Chevrolet Repair: code P1406 EGR Valve, fuse panel, nice day
QuestionI have a 96 chevy S-10 that would not pass state insp. The read out gave a code of P1406 which iam told is an emmision code (EGR) Per a friend i removed the EGR valve and cleaned the portal holes with a wire i also loosened the Pintal? at the bottom of the valve (it was carboned up), After reinstalling the EGR valve i dissconnected the neg battery ter. to reset the computer and turn off the service engine soon light. I drove the truck approx 30 miles stopping twice to turn the engine off and restart, the light never came back on.... untill i parked it at home for a few hours, then went out to test drive it agian, about a mile down the road the light came back on. Any ideas would be a great help. i have 9 more days to get it inspected. Also, a/c is not working. power at the fuse panel and at the relay (Bottom left terminal) on firewall no power at compressor. PLEASE HELP... Thanks
AnswerHi Robbie, This sounds like you have a bad EGR valve, replace the valve and get a new gastket that has a screen in the port so carbon won't get into the new valve. As far as the A/C it most likely needs a charge or has a leak.
Hope this helps
Have a Nice Day Mark
