Chevrolet Repair: 90 Silverado 5.7 Electrical problems, ac volts, ac voltage
QuestionMy problems is I have no power from the Ignition Control Module. Have power coming from the coil going into it, the wires are hot with tester. The other side has no power even when the motor is cranked. I did put on new coil, had control module tested it was good. Is this a common problem with them I have heard of it before, but never the solution? thanx
AnswerHi Jeff, When you crank the engine over and test for AC voltage this will tell you if the mainshaft magnet is any good. If there is low AC voltage the module will not supply spark.
Hope this helps

Hi Jeff, You can't test the control module with a test light. What you need to do is test the pick up coil...should have 800 to 1500 ohms...Should put out .8 to 1.5 AC volts or more while cranking the engine and the pick up coil not connected to anything. Most of the time it is the pick up or the dist main shaft magnet is no good.
Hope this helps
