Chevrolet Repair: Broad range electrical problems, haynes manual, fuse block
QuestionHi Mark -
I think I've got a winner for the scariest question tonight...
I just bought an 88 Celebrity 2.8L FI 4 dr sedan from a buddy and all was working fairly well until this afternoon. I was headed down to the parts store to get a new column shift lever and I twisted the window washer knob to clean off my dusty windshield when suddenly my speedometer failed and I heard a noise like crackling radio static coming from my dash (scary because the radio was removed before I bought the car). I've tried tracking down the circuits, but my haynes manual has mysteriously left the 2.8 chassis electrical diagram out of the book and I can't find a darn thing under the hood but the obvious - battery, horn, lots of wires.... I'm not afraid to make the repairs myself, but I wouldnt even know where to start (I can't even locate the under hood fuse block and don't know if one even exists). This all started with a simple busted horn, too, and I can't find the relay for THAT either. At least all of my dash fuses are intact
I've got a factory electrical manual coming in the mail in the next week or so, but I'd like to get a heads up on the above items so I don't spend more time than necessary without the use of the car.
AnswerHi Matt, Not sure how much I can help you here without a book myself. I do know that the speedo not working was almost always the ECM. Relays rarely go bad for the horn, more like the horn itself is bad or a problem in the steering column. I hope the manual that is coming will help you out. I know that we don't even have any books for the year car.
Sorry I can't help you more
Have a Great Day Mark
