Chevrolet Repair: Intermittent no start, chevy suburban, starter wire
QuestionHi Mark! I am a Mercedes-Benz Mechanic and know nothing about American products. I have a 1993 Chevy Suburban (K2500) with a 7.4 tbi in it.
Not that this is any relevance, but this problem started after a huge rain storm. Typical scenerio is like this. Drive it to the store (until warmed up) and go in for a few minutes. Many times it won't start afterwards for a few minutes. This is a crank, but no start condition. When it does finally start, it runs fairly well and performs well. I have noticed at times the tach will jump around and I can feel a miss in the engine at idle. Then it goes away. Any ideas? What is a typical fuel pressure for that vehicle? It has 123k miles on it. I bought it second hand and really no service records. Where is the fuel pressure port so I can measure it next time this happens? Any other things I should look for? It never sets the check engine light and no lights come on after restart. thanks for this sight!

P.S. Is there a junction block where I can pick up a starter wire so I can use a bump starter to find out if I have spark at that time or not besides the starter?
AnswerHello Clint, There isn't a port to check fuel pressure on this type of fuel injection (TBI). There should be 9 to 13 lbs of pressure. There is also not a way to crank it other then having your buddy do it. My first thought is a spark problem. Maybe the pick up coil or module inside the dist. Be sure to check all the connections to make sure they are clean and tight.
