Chevrolet Repair: Chev S-10 1989 Pick Up 4X4, Four Wheel drive does not engage, pirate4x4, transaxle

My 4X4 doesn't engage I'm considering taking the differential apart to see why ... it seems like the engaging cable doesn't engage the transaxle front differential.

The triangular component at the base of the diff is leaking ... probably needs a gasket. I can't take the thing apart ntil I get a manual so that I can see an exploded diagram of the diff.

Any suggestions ... what might I look for, in trying to repair this problem?
