QuestionI have a 1998 Chevrolet diesel pickup truck. I'm not sure of the engine size, but it is a eight cylinder engine. Also a four wheel drive. Lately it lacks power, uses a lot of fuel and black smoke comes out of the exhaust. The exhaust fumes also smell like a foundry sometimes. Do you have any idea what could be the problem. Thanks
AnswerHi Keith,
Make sure the air filter is clean. Also, the fuel filter.
If your truck has a turbocharger, their is a possibility it is bad.
There is a recall campaign on some injector pumps extended to 10 year, 100,000 miles, I believe.
Have your local dealer run your vin number, and see if yours is included. You might even find some information on Google.
