Chevrolet Repair: 94 Chevy Z71 ext cab 4x4 short wheel base, chevy z71, chevy 4x4

Question
I own the above, i've had to replace the transmisson twice in the last year and half.  I want to do away with the automatic/OD trans, I've found a wrecked 89 chevy 4x4 short wheel base w/5speed trans, will it work?  Everything measures the same but I realize the plugs are different.

That is really outside the area of things I do, cause I maintain a fleet, and keep it pretty much stock.
But go to this site, and do a search, or just browse around. It is very interesting.
