Chevrolet Repair: Engine roar, engine roar, fan clutch
QuestionHi Van. I have a 93 K1500 with a 5.7 350. I had the engine replaced at 193,000 miles and everything was fine, then at 227,000 the engine would roar whenever I would get on it to pass and later just whenever I would accellerate. I have replaced the fan clutch and just replaced the transmission, the raor is still there! There is a definate lose of power when I pass. What could this be?
AnswerHi Mark,
That sounds like a plugged exhaust system.
First see if there is a screen inside the tail pipe tip...about six inches in. I have seen those get covered with rust flakes while driving hard, and then they fall off during idle.
Otherwise, I would probably disconnect the pipe in front of the cat converter and go for a ride to check the power.
