Chevrolet Repair: my 1991 chevy berretta, timing chain, compression test

my car just cut off, a friend said it sounded like the timing chain is gone, no symptons before cutting off, just stopped in my driveway. how would i know if it is the timing chain. new fuel pump, alternator and battery    thanks

Hello Ivory, If the timing chain went bad the engine would crank over very fast and have no sound of compression. You can do a compression test to make sure. I'm not sure on how much compression this engine should have but somewhere around 120 to 150 lbs.
