QuestionI recently installed a rebuilt 350 engine (.030" over), midly rodded into my 48 Chev truck. Because there isn't a whole lot of room (5") below the block and the exhaust pipe, I installed a filter relocation kit. Now I'm worried about the oil lines failing. Is there a filter that would fit this engine that would be a maximum length of 4" or so? The block is made after 1980.
AnswerHi Glenn,
At work I have a filter book from NAPA, and in that book is a tech page that gives thread size, gasket size, and filter demensions.
You can look at what the filter for that engine was, and then look for combinations of that filter and thread size, with smaller outside demensions. I am sure there is one, but I won't be back to work till Monday.
I use that chart to find larger filters whenever possible for my fleet.
Also, there are remote filter kits that the hoses last for years.
