QuestionQUESTION: have power to cable at starter .dash lights up no codes. can not hear fuel pump and will not crank . starter okay cranks when jumped from cable on starter to solnoid.tried to start in both park and neutral-no crank.switched starter relay and fuel pump relay -same problem.bid60
ANSWER: Hi Vern,
Check fuses V and G in the power box under the hood, and then see if fuse V is getting 12V (from the ignition switch) when you try the 'start' position. If not, then the ignition switch is the problem.

QUESTION: i checked the fuses and have 12 volts at v fuse in start position. also checked back up lites, they are working.the neutral switch appears to be inter connected with the back up lites.if the key or the transponder are at fault would i still have power at v in the start position? all fuses check out okay.
ANSWER: Hi Vern,
Does the starter motor relay 'click' when you try start position? If so, then the relay is perhaps bad as regards the points inside (try switching out relay to check that), or the brown wire from the relay output (which goes thru om pin 9 a black 14-pin disconnect at the front left of the engine and comes out light green on the other side) and then to the solenoid is 'open'. If not, then for some reason the pcm is not grounding the actuation coil of the relay (tan wire at pin C of the relay, in-board/front pin of relay). I believe the only reason for that is the failure of the P/N interlock circuit... unless fuse G is cracked because that is needed for both the starter and the fuel pump to get power. So verify that fuse G is actually putting out 12V, all the time as it should.

QUESTION: hi. Roland i grounded the tan wire with a test lite and the engine cranked in the start position. how do itest the neutral switch with out removing it

AnswerHi Vern,
There is a light green plug on the top of the 42LE transmission with 10 pins and 8 wires in use (except pins 2 and 5). Four of the pins are connected to the trans range sensor grounding switches inside the transmission. The P position would be found to have pins 8,9,10 grounded and pin 7 open. The N position should have 7,9,10 grounded and pin 8 open. So check those out with a continuity tester or ohmmeter to ground. If those are OK then check the wires from the plug to the tcm: pins 7,8,9,10 go to pins 15,16,37,27 respectively at the tcm plug.
