Is there anyway to remove the harmonic balancer without the special tools??

If the manual suggests it, then it probably is neededn. Have you called around to rental shops or to auto parts stores to see if they have a tool to loan? If it is the 2.4L it sure look like it is on there tight enough to require a removal tool.
