Chrysler Repair: Interior door handle broken, interior door, assy

The inside door handle on my 2000 LHS no longer works.  the outside one still opens the door, however.  the dealer tells me the handle is part of the door panel assy and it is ordered from Chrysler at a pioce of aprox $500.  

Is there a fix for less$$ ?

The manual doesn't detail the handle. So all I can suggest is that you remove the panel and see what is broken. I can xerox copy and post mail you a page that show the procedure.
