Chrysler Repair: automatic door locks: defeatible?, automatic door locks, speed sensor
QuestionHi
I have a 92 New Yorker, and nothing is more a pain than those automatic door locks which engage as soon as you get to 10 mph. I was wondering if there was a way to disengage them so they don't lock automatically. Thank You
AnswerHi Linwood,
The auto door lock is controlled via the body computer so there is no obvious device to disconnect. And unfortunately the same relay function that locks the doors automatically also is used by the manual control switch inside the car to lock the doors as is therefore mediated by
the body control module, so if the body control module connection to that relay were severed then you couldn't lock the doors using that switch. So the only way to stop the automatic door locks would be to give up the power door locks entirely. The speed sensor is not only used by the body controller to lock the doors but also to shift the trans, etc. so that can't be disconnected either. I am afraid you have to live with it or give up the power locks.
