Chrysler Repair: 96 dodge intrpid, steering:inner tie rod bushing, inner tie rod, inner tie rods
QuestionProcedure for inner tie rod (bushing) replacement. This is a 96 dodge intrepid/3.5 liter engine. The inner tie rod attaches to the steering gear assembly. A dealer says replacing these two bushings (labor) $416 and is a 4-6 hour job.. I really question this and wonder what is involved??
AnswerHi David,
I just saw your question. I checked my manuals which appear to show that the inner tie rods are serviced as part of a steering gear replacement procedure. There is no mention of simply removing the inner tie rod as a separate procedure, which may be the reason for the high cost. That point in the procedure is after a large number of preceeding steps in the entire process of steering gear removal. Let me know if you have found differently.
