Chrysler Repair: service engine soon, dodge grand caravan, real score

Hi my name's james and I owna dodge grand caravan se 1996. On my dash board, the service engine soon light came out like 3 months ago. a certified mechanic just re-setted the computer so it was gone but said it might be a vacuum of something which i really didn't pay attention to. But yesterday it came out again and my supervisor said just change the EGR and the light will go off bcoz he said he did it a couple of times already to his other cars. Another co-worker said just press the reset button while turning the key to the "ON" position for ten sec or so then start the engine. This will turn off the light as what he claims..haven't done those yet but whats the real score anyway?

the real deal b4 u listen to any one else  find out what the code is   once u erase it  u get rid of all trace to what the prob is. Things are made like that for a reason and when u do stuff like erase it with out knowing then u have no idea what to really fix  under stand?
