Chrysler Repair: 95 Intrepid 3.5L - Timing belt replacement, timing belt replacement, release the tension
QuestionI was wondering if you can clear up an issue. I have recently changed the water pump. I know that it is recommended that you replace the timing belt at the same time (was planning on using the old one as I am on tight budget, and the belt is 50,000 short of replacement schedule). I have marked only one cam on old timing belt (before removal), and TDC mark was not lined up. Can I line up the TDC, and other cams without the belt on, without messing it up? Can I still use the old belt? Or if you have a better solution, I would more than welcome it. I thank you for your time in this matter, it is greatly appreciated. -WorriedMom
AnswerThe correct way is to lock down both cams there is a tool that will install on the back of the cams to lock them in place they are spring loaded so if u release the tension one or both will spin in a direction. AN auto parts store might have a cam lock tool.I live in the Atlanta area I would be glad to look at it for u.
