Classic/Antique Car Repair: Car wont crank, 1958chevy, jumper wire
QuestionI have a 1958chevy delray recently had the starter rebuilt so when I put back on the it cranked twice when I turn the and now it wont crank lights on dash comes on.i touch the starter with screw driver and it cranks that way..but not with key I replaced the ignition and still nothing.can you help me out
AnswerMost likely the solenoid is acting up. Make up a jumper wire that will reach from the solenoid to the battery. Attach it to the purple wire of the solenoid. Then touch it to the POS terminal of the battery. The engine should crank. If it does not but will crank when you do your screw driver trick, the problem is indeed the solenoid.
