QUESTION: If the vin number on the title does not match the build number on the tag on the fire wall does that mean its not the correct title for the car on does the number have to be decoded? Thanks

ANSWER: The VIN is usually on a tag on the drivers door jamb. The tag on the fire wall has no relationship to the VIN.

QUESTION: I checked the door jam and there is no tag and no holes where a tag was ever mounted. No evidence of a tag ever been mounted in that location. Thanks Jack

Is the build plate on the right side (passengers side) of the fire wall or the left? On some model GM cars there is a serial number on the left frame rail in the engine bay. One reference source that I have says that the serial number is on a plate on the right side of the fire wall in the engine bay.
