Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1930 Model A, starter switch, crossmember
QuestionI'm installing the battery after removing from the winter....where does the strap go that's attached to the transmission? There's an "o-ring" on the end.
AnswerThe positive goes to ground on a bolt on the crossmember, and the negative goes to the starter switch. Many people add a ground strap that goes from the transmission bell housing to the chassis,(crossmember). This is done to make sure the engine is grounded. With float-a-motor engine mounts, the engine has a hard time being grounded. The ground goes through the front engine mount, or the choke rod, whick is not very good.
Hope this helps.

Steve, I don't know where you live, but I don't take my battery out in the winter. A few of our members do, but I don't think it is worth the trouble. If your battery is good and your charging system is good, just turn off the engine and fire it up in the spring. I do that every year on two A's.
