Classic/Antique Car Repair: 6 volt flasher, Flasher not working
QuestionDick
we are working on restoring a 39 chevy firetruck, we are going us for a parade truck, the oem flasher unit for the front red light is bad, and we can not get a regular 6 volt flasher to work, can i get an oem unit for this. the one we have is about the size of your little finger with a stud in each end. any help would be great
Thanks Jeff
AnswerI'm shooting in the dark here, because I am not a truck guy, and I certainly know nothing about firetruck emergency lighting. The only reason I can think of for the regular 6 volt flasher not working would be something to do with the current drain of the red light - it must be much too much to ask of the normal flasher.
An electronics guy could design a relay operated flashing light power unit for you quite easily - ask at your local Radio Shack for the name of someone who plays with electronic devices - they should be able to give you someone to help you out.
Sorry I can't be more help myself.
