Question I was wondering if you could tell me where or if I could find a rear axle outer oil seal for a 1972 Cadillac hearse.
The car was built on a commercial chassis and everything on the car is stock. I am trying to restore the old led sled
but have come across a problem I can not find axle seals for this old car. Everyone tries to sell me a #9912 seal
but it is to small. I need an oil seal for a commercial chassis not for a standard chassis. I don't know if it will help but here is the axle bearing # RSN1584EV.
AnswerThe part number your are looking for is 1496176, and yes, it is a different part for the series 75 chassis, as you know. I show the series 75 bearing as 1394720. These numbers are the original Cadillac numbers - I don't recognize the numbers you gave - they must be aftermarket numbers.
Oil seals like these haven't changed in many years. If you go to a bearing supply house like KAMAN bearing, and take the ID and OD of the seal, and the thickness, they can match it up for you.
Alternatively, there is a guy who specializes in obsolete oil seals and bearings, contact him at: Olcar Bearing Company 455 Lakes Edge Drive Oxford, MI 48371 810/969-2628
He will have what you need.
