Classic/Antique Car Repair: 66 Nova restoration, cyl engine, smart ass
QuestionI would like to restore my '66 Nova coupe which has been sitting for over 30 years. The body has very little, mostly superficial rust. The 6-cyl.engine head is sitting in the trunk. I'm undecided on rebuilding or replacing the engine with a small block v-8. I've never attempted a project like this. Can you suggest where to start?
Thank you.
AnswerStart by deciding what you are going to do. This is not a smart ass comment. If you start half hearted to rebuild the six, when you really want an 8, you will spend a lot of extra money and then bail to the 8.
I personally would keep the 6, both for the cool factor and the fact it is a better engine all around.
But you must decide what you want long term.
Then go with a rebuilt engine from a rebuild company. You can actually get specials cheaper than you can buy the parts to do it yourself.
