Classic/Antique Car Repair: CHANGING REAR END, chevrolet truck, leaf springs
QuestionI HAVE A 1954 CHEVROLET TRUCK. I WOULD LIKE A BETTER CRUSE ON THE HIGHWAY. I HAVE REMOVED A COMPLETE REAR-END FROM A 50 CHEVROLET POWERGLUIDE WILL THIS COMPLETE UNIT WORK AND BOLT UP TO THE TRUCK WITH OUT ANY MODS.. THANKS CHARLIE.
AnswerHi Charlie:
Well, first let me answer your questions, then let's talk about the smoother ride you are looking far. Just so happen that in 1954, Chevy redesigned the rear-end. So the 1950 will work with some minor mods. Key mod is the bed height is 2.25" lower. But I'm not sure if you are going to get a better ride.
Assuming there is nothing wrong with your 54 Chevy, I would consider new Mono leaf springs and shocks. That would improve your ride. I'm guessing the ones you have are pretty worn by now.
