Classic/Antique Car Repair: TR-6 cloth top, vinyl repair kit, canvas tops

Question
What is most recommended to repair a small puncture in my TR-6 cloth top?
My upholstery shop says a product at Auto Zone (!) can do as well as them
but I fear this.....

Answer
If your top is a vinyl top and the hole is not too large, he is probably correct that a vinyl repair kit like they use to patch small holes in seats etc. would be best. If the hole is larger you should place a scrap of vinyl on the inside when filling the hole. The repair kit instructions will also say that.
If you have one of those aftermarket canvas tops, you will probably need to check with some other auto top shops.
