QuestionHi, my question is do know of a catalog or a source that gives any info on what parts will fit different cars @i am restoring a 1971 olds cutlass and am in need of seats for this car, will seats from something else fit, like buick or chevy, kind of like what a junk yard would have used.
AnswerYes, there is a manual called "Hollanders" which gives parts interchangeability information for all US cars - but it is very expensive to subscribe to. If you cannot find one in your local library, your only way to get the info you need is from a large and properous junkyard- they will have a subscription to it and back issues back to 71 and earlier, but you'll probably have to buy the parts from them to get them to tell you what interchanges - the subcription is thousands of dollars per year.
As for replacing seats, there are probably quite a few seats that will fit, but that doesn't mean they will look right. Each brand of car used different upholstery patterns and designs for the trim on the seats - if you want it to look right, you are probably going to have to find the right seats, and have them re-upholstered to match your car. GM used that same body in many intermediate cars, for a couple of years in a row, so just finding something that will bolt in and work is easier than the exact right seat.
I don't know what part of the country you are in, but out here on the west coast, we have a chain of junkyards that is called "Memory Lane" - I think they are in Arizona also - if you call them, they may be able to help you.
