Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1973 Plymouth Scamp, 1973 plymouth scamp, plymouth scamp
QuestionI have a chance to get a 1973 Plymouth Scamp for no cost. There is some body work that needs to be done, but my question concerns cleaning out the gas tank. It has been sitting in a garage for over 20 years, with little gas in the tank. When I removed the gas cap, it smells like varnish. I was wondering if you had suggestions on the best way to clean or repair this.
AnswerChris;
Hi as far as the tank - you should take it out and there are places that soak it or boil it out for you and test it , or a new after market tank might be cheeper- 150.00-200.00 . you will have to blow out the fuel lines as the gas does turn into a varnish like crud and change the oil/filter ,etc. and all fluids in the car and you might end up replacing all of the brake cylds. and lines, hoses- belts,plugs-wires, check everything . etc. etc.
