Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1947 International Pickup registration, department of motor vehicles, international pickup
QuestionHi I bought a 1947 International KB1 pickup for 600 dollars. The truck is all there except it doesnt have a title or a vin number. I did find a tag on the bed that has a model number and the farm tag from ? year. How do I go about getting it titled in my name. I did get a bill of sale on it.
AnswerThere are some states that do not require a title for a vehicle that old. There are vendors in those states that will sell you a valid certificate that you can use to get the vehicle put into your name. You can use the engine number as a VIN - in fact many vehicles of that era were titled to the engine number, and your truck may have been titled that way.
One such vendor can be contacted at www.car-titles.com
I have not used their service, but I know others have.
Another method is to call your local department of motor vehicles and ask how to have a title issued to you. You will probably be asked to trailer the vehicle in to a state police or highway patrol facility to get a VIN tag attached to the vehicle by an officer. You will have to make an appointment for this service. The officer will know where a hidden VIN is on your vehicle, if you are lucky. You will have to show a valid bill of sale from the previous owner to get them to issue a title to you.
You may have to state that you assembled the vehicle from spare parts. I have had to do this in California.
