Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1939 Pontiac Sedan, ownership document, pateras

I have a 1939 Pontiac Four Door Sedan.I am trying to find the VIN number on the car. The number on the firewall is the body number. Where else should I be looking?

Hi John,

Well...I never thought about this before so your question helped me learn something today.  

I'd check out this website:

http://www.autoinsurancetips.com/vin_history.htm

...and consider the possibility you aren't going to find a VIN number.  In '39 it would seem very likely the body number you found may be all there is.

Now. if you have a registration or ownership document that lists another number, this site lists the areas on your car you can look in for it.
