Dodge Repair: a/c f/u question, service writers, smoke test
QuestionHi Kevin, in a recent answer you provided about a caravan with a new compressor. Your answer was that there was a freon leak. I am wondering if perhaps you did not catch that the writer states it is cool on front passenger side still but warm on drivers and rear zone? This, in my unprofessional opinion, would seem to indicate that it is not a freon problem entirely. Is it possible that one of the doors is not opening as it should and then the air is running over the heater core instead causing these symptoms? (Not exactly sure of the route but I am sure you get the concept I am trying to relate!:))Anyway, liquid smoke test may be an option to see if this theory is valid. If the smoke only circulated to the passenger front compartment then blocked passage could be the culprit.
AnswerI thank you for your concern that I may be wrong.I have service writers at the dealer that have also questioned me on the same issue. I shall enplane to you and others wanting too know why I said what I said.
The system holds 2.69lbs of freon when it gets low around 1 to 1.5 lbs basically half the amount there is not enough to remove enough heat from the incoming air and the driver side the the last side to get the air. SO u have a cooler pass side even though it is not cold cold its cooler then the driver so u get the allusion that the heat is on the driver side and cold on pass. Ask any good AC Chrysler guy.
The compressor would have been replaced due it locking up or making noise from the leak that is there because its at a low end of the condensor so alot of the oil is also leaked out and will then cause moving parts like the compressor to lock up due to lack of AC oil.
