Ford Repair: 97 expedition 5.4L triton, manual lever, shift lever

My wife's truck will not shift into park. The truck has a link from the shifter to the transmission at the trany. I am trying to adjust the link but can not get it loose. it is made primarily of plastic so breaking it seems very possible. Is there a way to adjust the link at the transmission's manual lever.

does the shifter feel loose? if so the shaft on end of steering column may be loose or tube from shift lever to end of column may be broken-you do not adjust anything at the transmission.
if your shifter is loose you need to take in into a garage for repair it is usually less than $200.00 here even for worst case.
