Ford Repair: malfunctioning gauges, ford explorer sport, coolant temp

i have a 1997 Ford Explorer Sport 4 X 4 with the odometer and speedometer intermittently working. Any trouble shooting suggestions??? I am not sure if this is a mechanical or electrical issue???????

I also have a temp coolant gauge that will not work after replacing two thermostat sensors on front motor. Any ideas on this as well.Could it be a gauge sensor or connection problem.

odometer and speedometer could be a speed sensor-
coolant temp could be guage or connection you are correct-first make sure you put in temp sender for guage and not computor they are different you didn't tell which engine so i'm not sure which one you have-one engine they are side by side

another engine they are in two different locations and the computor coolant sensor is on front of engine and does not work the guage
