Ford Repair: Windstar transmission error, electronic problem, limp home
QuestionMy 1995 Windstar transmission goes into error mode. Overdrive light blinking and starts out in second gear. Had the tranny rebuilt 6 months ago for this reason and now happened again. But drove vehicle for a couple days and the error seems to have reset itself and now drives normally with no error. Is there something else I should look at? Does the error just go away after so many miles?
AnswerHello Steve,
When the error is present, see if you can retrieve a fault code out of the computer. It is possible the PCM itself is faulty, or it is seeing an electrical fault that is bad enough it goes into "limp-home" mode(2nd gear only). It could also be a faulty shift solenoid in the transmission that locks it into second gear and sets a fault code. The fact that it comes and goes tells me that it's likely to be an electronic problem, or a faulty solenoid. I hope this information helps you, good luck!
Shaun.
